Palazzo Veniero

2.37

Veniero Palace in Sorrento is one of the most fascinating historical buildings in the city, known for its imposing architecture. Located in the heart of the historic center, this palace is a magnificent example of Renaissance architecture, enriched with Baroque elements added in later centuries.

It was built in the 15th century as the residence of one of the most influential families in Sorrento, the Venieros, who were well-known maritime traders at the time. The facade of the palace features elegant mullioned windows that reflect the Catalan Gothic style, very popular in Mediterranean coastal centers during the Middle Ages.

One of the most notable architectural elements of the Palace is the entrance portal, adorned with a stone lintel that displays the Veniero family crest. Above, the windows are decorated with stone frames that add a sense of depth and sophistication to the external structure.

Inside, the palace is divided into various rooms that house frescoes, coffered ceilings, and majolica floors. The frescoes, in particular, depict mythological and allegorical scenes typical of Renaissance taste and are attributed to local painters of the time.

The internal courtyard is surrounded by an elegant portico which overlooks the various rooms of the palace.
