The Battle of Issus took place in southern Anatolia, south of the ancient coastal city of Issus, on the border between Cilicia and Syria. In November of 333 BC, the forces of Alexander the Great, King of Macedonia, clashed with and defeated the Persians of Darius III, paving the way for Macedonian conquest of Phoenicia.
