The Ludi Apollinari were annual celebrations dedicated to the God Apollo which were held in Pompeii in the month of July. During these celebrations gladiatorial shows and theatrical performances took place. Despite the construction of the temple of Jupiter, the Sanctuary of Apollo in Pompeii continued to maintain importance and organize these celebrations. Apollo is one of the rare deities who retained their original name in both Greek and Roman cults.
