San Vigilio, who lived in the 4th century AD, was the third bishop of Trento and a Catholic Church martyr saint. Few details about his life are certain.
Vigilio evangelized the Anaunia region (now Val di Non) with the help of three deacons, who were martyred in the year 397. Vigilio continued to preach in still-pagan areas, such as Val Rendena, and for this, he was stoned to death. Legend tells of miracles occurring during the transport of his body to Trento.
Venerated as a saint, Vigilio is the patron saint of the Archdiocese of Trento and the Diocese of Bolzano-Bressanone.
