Juliet’s House is one of Verona’s most famous tourist attractions, closely tied to the legendary love story of Juliet and Romeo, immortalized by William Shakespeare.
Although the two characters are entirely fictional, Verona has skillfully turned the myth into a powerful symbol, attracting visitors from all over the world.

The house, dating back to the 13th century, stands on Via Cappello and once belonged to the Cappello (or Dal Cappello) family — as indicated by the family coat of arms featuring a hat above the entrance archway.
The City of Verona purchased the building in 1905, and between 1939 and 1941 it underwent a Neo-Medieval restoration designed to recreate the atmosphere of the famous love story. During this period, the courtyard was created and the iconic balcony was added — not as a historical element, but as a romantic gesture meant to fulfill the expectations of visitors enchanted by Shakespeare’s tale.

In the following decades, the interiors were furnished with Medieval and Late Medieval elements dating from the 13th to the 15th century, in keeping with the museum’s historical theme.
In the courtyard stands the famous bronze statue of Juliet, created by Nereo Costantini in 1969 and placed here in 1972. According to local tradition, touching the right breast of the statue is said to bring good luck in love. Since 2014, a replica has been placed in the courtyard, while the original sculpture is preserved inside the museum.

Let me leave you with an interesting fact: one of the most endearing traditions associated with Juliet’s House is writing letters addressed to Juliet, sharing personal stories and love dilemmas. There is even a real Juliet Club, a group of volunteers who dedicate themselves to answering letters from all over the world, keeping alive the legend of eternal love that continues to define Verona’s romantic spirit.
