“Woman with an Umbrella” is a series of paintings by the French impressionist painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir. In this series, Renoir often depicts elegant women strolling in the open air, shielding their faces from the sun with a parasol. The parasol, in addition to providing protection against the sun's rays, also adds an aesthetic dimension to the composition, with the play of lights and shadows that it creates on the woman's face. Renoir's quick, light brushstrokes, characteristic of his impressionist technique, add a sense of movement and spontaneity to these paintings.
