The Mahayana Buddhist Temple or Eastern States Buddhist Temple, founded in 1962, is the oldest Chinese Buddhist temple on the East Coast of the United States. Founded by Annie and funded by James Ying, it serves as a place of worship and social club for elderly Chinese individuals in Chinatown, offering space for playing chess, reading, and socializing. This unique temple also hosts Chinese Buddhist ceremonies and provides weekly public lectures. An important community and religious institution that bridges generations.
