Maya Lin Ting (born on October 5, 1959, in Athens, Ohio) is an American sculptor famous for her contributions to sculpture and landscape architecture. Her most well-known work is the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington. Lin is the niece of Lin Huiyin, a prominent Chinese architect. Graduating from Yale University in 1986, she won the competition for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at the age of 21 in 1981. The monument, inaugurated in November 1982, features a granite wall with the names of the fallen, symbolizing the wound in the earth caused by the tragic loss of human lives.
