The unification of Italy refers to the process by which the different Italian states that existed before the 19th century united to form a single country. This process was mainly carried out through armed struggle and diplomacy, and was led by prominent figures such as Giuseppe Garibaldi and Camillo Cavour. The unification of Italy was completed in 1871, with Rome as the capital of the new Kingdom of Italy.
