The Delano Hotel, one of the most famous Miami Beach resorts.
If you’re walking along Collins Avenue, you must stop at number 1685 and admire this magnificent hotel, which has become one of the cult places of Miami Beach, both for its original Art Deco architecture and for the celebrity guests who have always stayed here.
This famous hotel was built in 1947, on a design by the architect Robert Swartburg, commissioned by the entrepreneurs Rob Schwartz and his wife Rose. The Delano underwent a total restyling in 1994 by the renowned architect Philippe Starck. At the time it was built, the tall, four-winged tower that rises in the center of the façade made the Delano the highest building in Miami. Hollywood’s most glittering stars have stayed here, and the hotel is rumored to be the no. 1 favorite with the singer Madonna on her visits to the city.
If possible, I suggest you take a look around the reception area, or stop for a leisurely drink at the bar, admiring the characteristically peculiar furnishings created by the genius of Philippe Starck. Outside the hotel, you’ll get a glimpse of the large pool surrounded by palm trees and the typical “cabanas”, cabins for those looking for a little privacy. In addition to the pool, hotel guests also have access to a private beach.
The significant renovation work carried out at the hotel has allowed the Delano to remain at the top of the list of Miami Beach’s finest hotels, without losing the legendary allure that has always set apart its architecture and its clientele. Today this luxury hotel is part of the important Morgans Group, which owns numerous other facilities worldwide.
Let me leave you with an interesting fact. The hotel is named after the US President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who promoted the social reform known as the New Deal, which allowed Miami’s economy – and morale – to recover following the terrible 1926 hurricane and the Great Depression.
