Known in the USA as the capital of Latin America, Miami looks rather more like a city in the Caribbean than a modern American metropolis, despite having the third tallest and most beautiful skyline in the USA, with over 300 skyscrapers.

You’ll hear more Spanish than English spoken here, thanks especially to the large number of Cuban immigrants in the city.

Miami’s history is unique, because it’s the only large US city to have been “invented” by a woman: the wealthy Cleveland businesswoman, Julia Tuttle, who grew oranges here and persuaded the tycoon Henry Flagler to extend his railway to her land and to found the city there, on July 28, 1896.

At that time, Miami had a population of just over 300, which swelled to over a million in a few short decades, thanks to the fabulous climate, one of the most beautiful bodies of water in the USA, with an abundance of fish, flourishing agriculture and intense immigration from the Caribbean.

Miami is a thrilling city, combining the efficiency of a modern metropolis, nestled between two marvelous parks, with the charm of old twentieth-century neighborhoods, such as Española Way, Little Havana or Coral Gables, steeped in history and with a wealth of splendid buildings, Art Deco masterpieces and magnificent hotels.

And then of course there’s the ocean and the islands, above all the delightful Florida Keys, which feature some of the world’s most beautiful beaches. Let’s not forget, however, that the city also has a number of fascinating museums, such as the Bass Museum, or the Perez Art Museum, featuring one of the most avant-garde contemporary art collections in the United States.

Miami is a holidaymakers’ paradise, with its numerous bars, restaurants, discos and clubs, invariably packed with people of all ages who like to have fun and listen to marvelous music.

An interesting fact: pirates like Blackbeard are said to have left large treasures in the ocean opposite Miami’s beaches, and many tourists have in fact found silver and gold objects here, both on the beach and in the waters. Why don’t you try your luck?

So, get ready to visit the wonders of this splendid city.

Enjoy your stay!
