Jurong Bird Park is the largest in the world in terms of the number of birds, and the second largest in terms of both number of species and surface area, after the Weltvogelpark Walsrode in Germany. It is home to 5,000 birds of 400 species, 29 of them threatened with extinction.

Jurong Bird Park is located on the western side of Jurong Hill, the highest point in the region. Work on the Park began in January 1969, and it was opened on January 3, 1971. It underwent renovation work in 2006.

It is divided into a number of sectors, one of the most interesting of which is the African Waterfall Aviary, the second largest in the world, with over 600 free-flying birds of more than 50 species. The aviary is named after the Jurong Falls, one of the world's highest man-made waterfalls, which can be admired inside.

Make sure you don’t miss the Wings of Asia sector, which boasts the largest collection of Southeast Asian birds, with over 200 species. The best time for a visit is midday, when a thunderstorm is simulated, followed by a cool, light drizzle.

The Park also has a huge nine-storey, 3,000-square-meter aviary with Australian lories and lorikeets that visitors can feed, as well as an area for penguins, with a striking 21-meter entrance designed in the shape of a Portuguese galleon.

Another fascinating area is the Pelican Cove, where you can admire all seven species of the bird, including the endangered Dalmatian pelican. There is also a viewing gallery from which pelicans can be seen diving for fish in a huge tank.

The Park offers numerous shows in which visitors can interact with the birds.

Let me leave you with an interesting fact: you may even be lucky enough to watch a little bird hatching, because visitors are allowed into the Park nursery, where the eggs are kept in incubators and hatch daily.
